Online credit card fraud is one of the most difficult to detect. Many companies offer options to their patrons to be able to order something online and pick it up at the brick and mortar location literally moments later. The thief will print a receipt and go to the store and pick up the purchase they just made using your card and away they go. This makes it more difficult to track or identify the thief. It’s done so quickly and randomly leaving it virtually undetectable. In fact it could be someone you know or a close friend committing this crime against you.

The authorities are forming credit card fraud task forces all across the globe and linking up with other agencies to try to stop this type of crime. There are also options for you as a consumer when using your credit card online. Check with your bank to see if they have a special program where you can get a temporary or a one -time use credit card number if you want to purchase something online but don’t want to risk someone capturing your data and using it without permission.

If you or someone you know has been victimized by online credit card fraud you should report it not only to your local authorities, but search out the online warriors who are working against this type of thievery and make a formal complaint or report with them. Often times the merchants themselves don’t report it to the authorities, especially if the volume is low. They use it as a write off. Sometimes for them it is easier for them to write it off than to be drowned in the paperwork that goes along with reporting. Either way,do your part and make sure the proper authorities are notified at once.
